Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots is a masterpiece comedy-drama. Released in 2009, it broke all box office records to become the highest-grossing Indian film of its time, capturing hearts globally.
The Detailed Plot: Pursuit of Excellence
The narrative moves between the past (college years) and the present. In the present, two friends, Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi, receive a tip about the whereabouts of their long-lost college companion, Ranchoddas "Rancho" Chanchad (Aamir Khan), who disappeared immediately after graduation.
In the past, the three friends study at the highly competitive Imperial College of Engineering (ICE) under the strict director, Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Virus). While Farhan wants to be a wildlife photographer and Raju struggles with family poverty, Rancho is a brilliant student who believes in learning rather than rote memorization. Rancho's philosophies constantly clash with Virus and Chatur "Silencer" Ramalingam.
Rancho falls in love with Pia (Kareena Kapoor), Virus's daughter. Years later, Farhan and Raju find out that the "Rancho" they knew was actually the son of a poor gardener who studied under a wealthy family's name, and is now a famous scientist named Phunsukh Wangdu living in Ladakh.
