Om Shanti Om (2007): Bollywood's Ultimate Reincarnation & Retro Musical Masterpiece

Directed by Farah Khan, Om Shanti Om is one of the most iconic romantic fantasy comedies in modern Indian cinema. Released in 2007, it marked the stellar debut of Deepika Padukone and celebrated the golden era of 1970s Bollywood.

The Detailed Plot: Reincarnation and Retribution

The story is split into two halves: the 1970s and the 2000s.

In the 1970s, Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) is a junior artist who is deeply in love with superstar actress Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). When Shantipriya is trapped in a burning studio set fire by her secret husband, the greedy producer Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal), Om attempts to save her but is brutally beaten and dies in the explosion.

Thirty years later, Om is reborn as Om Kapoor, a wealthy superstar. He remembers his past life when he visits the ruins of the burnt studio. Om Kapoor teams up with his past-life mother Bela (Kirron Kher), best friend Pappu, and Sandy (a Shantipriya lookalike) to trap Mukesh Mehra into confessing his crime by staging a grand, fake film launch called "Om Shanti Om."
