Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay is a cultural milestone. Released in 1975, it ran for over five consecutive years at Mumbai's Minerva theater, cementing its place as the definitive Curry Western.

The Detailed Plot: Revenge and Friendship in Ramgarh

Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), a retired police officer in the village of Ramgarh, seeks revenge against the brutal dacoit leader Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), who had slaughtered Thakur's family and cut off his arms.

To capture Gabbar, Thakur hires two small-time crooks, Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan). Despite their criminal backgrounds, Veeru and Jai agree and arrive in Ramgarh. They defend the villagers from Gabbar's attacks, and find themselves integrating into the community. Veeru falls in love with the talkative tangawalli Basanti (Hema Malini), while Jai grows close to Thakur's widowed daughter-in-law, Radha (Jaya Bhaduri).

During a final showdown, Gabbar's men capture Veeru and Basanti. Jai launches a heroic rescue attempt but is fatally wounded during a bridge explosion. Jai dies in Veeru's arms, leading to a furious Veeru defeating Gabbar before the police arrive.
